"PERSPECTIVES" a Collection by Yana & Oksana Movchan

SEPTEMBER 6TH-24TH

OPENING RECEPTION: SEPT. 15TH 5-9PM

Kiev-born sisters Yana and Oksana Movchan share more than just bloodlines; they inherited the artistic talent of their father, Vitaly Movchan, a successful Ukrainian artist. Both trained at the Ukrainian art Academy, each now reside in Canada with their respective families and enjoy international recognition for their masterful artwork.
Royal Gallery welcomes Oksana into its fold of esteemed talent with a showcase of her mixed media works alongside Yana’s realist paintings in their first exhibition together titled “Perspectives”.
The show runs Sept. 6-24th with an opening Reception on Sept. 15th 5-9pm.
“I believe it will be an interesting experience for those attending to witness how different mediums, and different personalities, portray beauty of this world; one using color and tone; another lines and rhythm,” says Oksana, the elder sibling. “Despite visual differences between our works, we both search for harmony and beauty. I believe this allows our work to complement and contrast one another.”
Yana’s new paintings are inspired by the natural and magical, connected by incredible beauty between light and lines.
“I paint what is in front of me,” she says. “I paint real light, real objects.”
Yana’s hyper real oil portraits and still lives have been compared by scholars to the Old Masters, Velasquez, and Magritte. Her detailed paintings are bold, whimsical, magical, and allegorical-a story nestled within each flower, fruit, and gesture of her animals.
In contrast, Oksana’s fragile yet daring creations are beautifully executed and imbued with the culture and spiritual references of her Ukrainian homeland. Her intricate and lyrical drawings on gold and silver leaf speak of the intimate, cosmic relationship between nature and humanity. The closer one looks at these works the more hidden details are evident; profound stories and moving messages emerge, placing the viewer directly within the conversation between the seen and the unseen worlds.
“I have always been fascinated by life’s greatest mysteries: birth, love, and transformation, which are long-standing themes in my art,” explains Oksana. “My are reflects my current perspective of these themes.”
As Oksana continues to explore her own technique of drawing on gold snd silver foil using an etching needle as a tool, she says she is “moving more toward realistic interpretation of human figures and faces, but still maintaining my freedom to play with images in the surrealistic tradition.”
